What does a prescription code look like?

It is a short alphanumeric code — for example RX-2024-A7K3 — printed on your consultation slip or shown on your doctor's screen. It is unique to your prescription and expires once dispensed.

help_outline

Do I need an account to search for medicines or pharmacies?

No. Medicine and pharmacy search is completely free and requires no account. Simply go to the Search page, type what you are looking for, and browse results. Only doctors and pharmacists need to register.

help_outline

What is a prescription code and where do I get one?

A prescription code is a unique alphanumeric code generated by your doctor at the end of a consultation. It links to your digital prescription so MedSearch Rwanda can check which pharmacies have all your medicines in stock. Ask your doctor for the code — it is usually printed on your consultation slip.

help_outline

Which insurance schemes does MedSearch Rwanda support?

MedSearch Rwanda currently supports the three main Rwandan health insurance schemes: Mutuelle de Santé, RAMA (Rwanda Medical Insurance), and MMI (Military Medical Insurance). You can filter search results to show only pharmacies that accept your scheme.

help_outline

How does MedSearch Rwanda know which medicines a pharmacy has in stock?

Pharmacists log in to their dashboard and update their inventory directly. When a medicine is marked as Available, it appears in search results. When it is marked Out of Stock or removed, it no longer appears. We encourage pharmacists to keep their inventory up to date so patients always get accurate information.

help_outline

Is my prescription information kept private?

Yes. Prescription details are only accessible to the patient who holds the code, the doctor who created it, and the pharmacist who fulfils it. The public search never reveals prescription contents — only medicine availability status is shown. Stock quantities, pricing, and supplier information are never exposed publicly.

help_outline

What happens if no pharmacy has all my medicines in stock?

MedSearch Rwanda will show you Partial Match results — pharmacies that have some but not all of your prescribed medicines. Each partial match is clearly labelled so you can decide whether to visit one pharmacy for part of your prescription or contact your doctor for alternatives. If no pharmacy has any of your medicines, the page will advise you to contact your doctor or the nearest hospital pharmacy.

help_outline

How do I register my pharmacy on MedSearch Rwanda?

Go to the Register page, select the Pharmacist role, and complete the registration form with your pharmacy details, license number, and accepted insurance schemes. Upload a copy of your pharmacy license. Your application will be reviewed by the admin team and you will receive an email once approved.

help_outline

How accurate is the distance shown on pharmacy results?

Distances are calculated using the Haversine formula — the straight-line distance between your GPS location and the pharmacy's registered coordinates. Actual travel distance may be longer depending on roads. Always use the "Get Directions" link for accurate navigation via Google Maps.
